Spring recital is a fully staged concert held at the MHS Auditorium in Coos Bay scheduled for Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6, 2010. Both shows will be presented as a 2:00pm matinee.
Participation in recital is highly recommended, but is not mandatory. Most students, however, do look forward to performing for families and friends as part of the class year. If a student chooses to be in recital, they must be in all dress rehearsal(s) scheduled for their performance(s). No exceptions. This means those performing both days must attend both dress rehearsals. 2010 dress rehearsal days are Thursday, June 3 and Friday, June 4, 2010, at the auditorium, beginning at 4:00pm. The specific rehearsal time for each class will be posted at the dance school prior to the scheduled dress and tech rehearsal days.
Costume Fees
Costumes worn during the performance are purchased by the student (some exceptions for upper level dancers who are fitted through the costume room and charged a cleaning fee). Last year's costume fees were $55 for Preparatory and beginning levels; $65 for Intermediate and Upper levels. Current year prices will be posted as soon as the new costume books arrive and we can see if prices have gone up. Costume suppliers require all costumes to be ordered during January of each year in order to insure delivery by recital time in the Spring. Fees must be paid before costumes are ordered. Once the costumes are ordered, these fees are non-refundable. The costumes purchased are yours to keep. Students taking multiple classes can make payment arrangements at the time of registration. Costumes fees are due by the last class of December.
Free Admission:
Our recital is free to the public thanks to a generous corporate sponsor (for 2007, 2008 and 2009 Bay Cities Ambulance) and donors. You are encouraged to attend both performances and bring as many guests as you would like.
The auditorium lobby will have a flower concession, recital programs, information about the school, summer schedules, picture schedule and order envelopes, recital DVD sign up, etc ...during recital weekend.
Chaperons
Each year, volunteers are asked to sit in the balcony during performances, to chaperon the younger students. Chaperons stay in the balcony so they can watch the entire show. If called, please try to help. A balcony superintendent will recruit dependable people to be "runners". they will escort children back stage to perform and then back to their seats in the balcony so they may watch the rest of the show. This is part of training the dancers to learn to be an appreciative audience.
The program runs without intermissions. No student is allowed to leave until the program is completed. Parents may pick up students in the balcony immediately after the program.
Videotaping and flash photography is allowed only during dress rehearsals, never during performances. Both days performances will be professionally filmed by Noggle Medial productions and made available for purchase at $22.
